#6 Where are those Fireflies…

The moment I wrote this, I’m still crying. Damn those fireflies. You probably wondering what the hell really happen right? Maybe you are thinking what are the stories behind those cursing flowing from my sweet fairy’s mouth (aahhh….) and all the fireflies things.

Let me share a story which I really don’t think will make me goes sobbing inconsolably…

This is a remarkable tale about a teenage boy and his younger sister in their survival set amid the atrocities of war during the post-World War 2 in Japan. The story begin with the scene of a janitor found a metal candy-drop container from a lifelessly boy lying on the floor. The janitor took the metal container and threw it into the field and a few fireflies lit up and flew away.

So, what so important about the metal container that I want to write it here? Naa… I guess I leave it to you to watch the movie. No need to spoil the whole story here right? Go find the movie and watch it. But please do make sure you have lots and lots of tissues with you. I guaranteed you that no one will walk away without shedding a single tear after watching this movie (maybe there will be someone who don’t want to admit it and he/she will say ‘oh, there’s something in my eyes’ haha).

For me this is a very great war-related movie which worth couple hours to watch. It is not about the war itself but it is more about the people who lives through it. It’s about what it takes to live your life as you cannot guess what will happen in the future especially during this time of war (WW2).

From what I read, the tale is a true story in history which the writer was a survivor of the Kobe bombings who wrote the book to apologise to his little sister who died during the war. But some said the movie and the story are semi-biographical. Well, whatever history lies behind this tale, I just can say this is a MUST SEE movie.

Version 1: Original animation
Version 3: Live-action movie

As I believed, there are three versions of this story. The original story is the animation which takes us back to 1988, and then it was adapted into TV-Drama Series in Japan in 2005. Later in 2008, based on the original animation, comes a live-action movie of this great tale.
Version 2: TV-Drama Series

Owh damn fireflies! What?! It’s not about the fireflies. It’s about the movie you stupid fairy. Arghhhh… I don’t want to continue anymore as it only bring tears to me (You know, I am a very sensitive little fairy. huuuu). So people… start searching for this movie or should I say anime instead of movie.

Happy watching people as I go flap-flap my wings hoping to catch some fireflies
